Obsidian is volcanic glass, formed when lava meets cold water and solidifies before it can become anything else. It is black in the way that deep water is black: not an absence, but a depth. The edges of a chip bead catch light differently than a polished surface, fractured and irregular, the way the stone actually breaks.

Paired here with cultured freshwater seed pearls that hold their own quiet light against the dark. The two strands move independently and settle together. The toggle clasp is handmade in sterling silver, fabricated to suit the weight and mood of the piece. The findings are sterling throughout.
